Business Class Fares to Australia by UK Airport

London usually has the widest choice, but it isn't always the cheapest. Manchester currently has our lowest fare to Adelaide, and regional one-stop fares often save you a separate trip to Heathrow.

London (LON) £3,896 £3,998 £3,998 £4,084 £4,097

Which Australian City Is Cheapest in Business Class?

On our current fares, Adelaide is the cheapest Australian city in business class, from £3,883 return from Manchester (£3,896 from London). Perth and Sydney follow at £3,998 from London, with Brisbane and Melbourne around £100 higher. The gap between cities is smaller than most travellers expect, so it usually makes sense to fly straight to the city you want rather than routing through a cheaper one and adding a domestic flight.

The bigger swings come from timing and routing: the same seat can cost far more in the December–January peak than in the shoulder months, and a one-stop routing via the Gulf or Asia is usually cheaper than the few near-direct options.

Direct or One-Stop: How to Fly to Australia

Non-stop to Perth

Qantas flies the only non-stop between the UK and Australia: Heathrow to Perth on the Boeing 787-9, around 17 hours. The outbound flight arrives in Perth around lunchtime and continues to Melbourne, so it works for Western Australia, Melbourne, or any east-coast city with a domestic connection. See our Qantas business class guide for the seat, lounge and schedule.

Non-stop to Sydney from October 2027

Qantas plans to launch daily non-stop Sydney–London flights in October 2027 under Project Sunrise, on the Airbus A350-1000ULR, with tickets expected on sale in February 2027. The new business suites have sliding doors, and the flight saves up to four hours compared with one-stop journeys.

One stop via the Gulf or Asia

Most business class travellers to Australia fly one-stop, which is where the best fares and the best seats usually are:

  • Qatar Airways via Doha: the Qsuite, with a closing door, on selected aircraft. See our Qsuite review.
  • Emirates via Dubai: the widest choice of UK departure airports and frequent connections to every major Australian city.
  • Singapore Airlines via Singapore: excellent service and a Changi stopover, from Heathrow and Manchester.
  • Etihad via Abu Dhabi: a strong value option on the east coast.
  • Qantas via Singapore: the A380 from Heathrow to Sydney with a short stop at Changi.

Flight Times from the UK to Australia

Route Typical journey time How
London – Perth Around 17 hours Non-stop (Qantas)
London – Sydney Around 22–24 hours One stop (Gulf or Asia)
London – Melbourne Around 22–24 hours One stop, or via Perth
London – Brisbane Around 23–25 hours One stop
London – Adelaide Around 22–24 hours One stop

Journey times include a typical connection and vary by airline and schedule. Flying from a regional UK airport adds little time when you connect straight onto a Gulf carrier.

Where to Sleep on a 22-Hour Journey

A one-stop trip to Australia splits into two long sectors, and which one falls at night decides how you arrive.

  • Via Dubai or Doha: about seven hours from London to the hub, then around 14 hours on to Sydney or Melbourne. The second sector is the one to sleep through, so an evening departure from London usually puts it overnight.
  • Via Singapore on Qantas QF2: the split reverses — about 13 hours 40 minutes to Changi, then 7 hours 40 minutes to Sydney. Sleep on the first sector.
  • Non-stop to Perth: a single sector of around 17 hours. One long sleep, no connection to miss, then a domestic hop if Perth isn't your final city.

Pick the routing whose long sector lands at night for you; that matters more to how you feel on arrival than the seat itself.

Best Time to Fly Business Class to Australia

Australia's seasons are the reverse of the UK's. The Australian summer (December to February) is the most popular time to visit and coincides with Christmas and New Year, when business class sells out months ahead and fares peak. The UK summer holidays are also busy with family travel.

For better availability and fares, look at the shoulder months: March to May and September to November, when the weather is warm across most of the country and demand is lower. Book several months ahead for peak dates. Our guide to the best time to book business class to Australia covers timing in detail, and how much business class to Australia costs breaks down fares by season.

Adding New Zealand or a Stopover

Many clients combine Australia with New Zealand (Auckland from £4,091) or break the journey in Singapore, Dubai or Doha on the way out. We can build an open-jaw itinerary, flying into one city and home from another, and add stopovers on the same ATOL-protected booking.

How We Price an Australia Trip

Three checks change the answer on this route more than any others, and we run all of them before quoting:

  • Non-stop versus one-stop for your real destination. The Perth non-stop only wins if the domestic hop onwards costs less than the one-stop premium to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. For Perth itself it usually does.
  • London versus the regions. Manchester currently undercuts London to Adelaide (£3,883 against £3,896). That reverses on the other four cities, so it is worth checking per city rather than assuming London is cheapest.
  • Return versus open-jaw. Flying into Sydney and home from Perth, say, often costs little more than a return and saves a domestic flight back across the country.

We then set our private consolidator fares against the public price for the same seat. More on how private fares to Australia work.
